Security patches and feature updates
Korean manufacturer Samsung offers various Android devices. The Korean manufacturer praised most of the devices on the market to date, and Samsung has provided two major Android updates for its top smartphones in the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. The cheaper Galaxy A- models usually skip versions. The situation is similar for tablets. The Galaxy Tab S model has two major Android updates, and the cheap Tab A model is usually one. Samsung notifies users about updates to the program in the Samsung membership app.

However, it may take some time for the Android update to appear on Samsung. According to our Android update report, about three months after the release of Android 10, Samsung released a new Google operating system for the Galaxy S10. By September 23, 2020, Android 10 will continue to be fully distributed to all devices provided by Samsung for updates.
The reason is that Samsung is making major changes to the version of Android provided by Google. For example, Samsung's own One UI user interface includes additional features not found in Google's Android version. For Samsung users, this is usually an advantage. For example, Dark Mode was available on Galaxy devices even before the release of Android 10.
One user interface: Samsung's user interface at a glance
Samsung has been offering a new user interface to its smartphones called One UI since 2019. The previous "TouchWiz" and "Samsung Experience" are no longer maintained or developed. Samsung responded with a UI in response to accusations of menu navigation overload on Galaxy smartphones. Developers have significantly reduced the number of screen elements; only symbols important to the user should be displayed on each screen. So Samsung aims.

As smartphones get bigger, Samsung has also divided the user interface of the One UI into two areas, the so-called viewing area is located at the upper part of the screen and the control area is located at the lower part of the screen. You should only find the controls in it so that you don't have to put your finger to the top of the screen. Version 2 now provides a UI.
One UI also includes many Samsung services and applications-such as the Bixby voice assistant or Samsung Internet browser. Samsung even offers its own app store through Galaxy Apps and its own cloud storage through Samsung Cloud. To use some of these services, you need a free Samsung account.
Higher-priced Samsung models bring interesting features to Samsung DeX. It enables Samsung phones to connect to a display and then work with a mouse and keyboard on a desktop-like surface.

Security patches and feature updates
In addition to major feature updates, Samsung is also distributing security patches for its Galaxy smartphones. These are used to compensate for newly discovered security holes in Google's operating system. Google distributes these updates monthly. However, Samsung provides security patches for some devices only monthly. These products mainly include top models, but also mid-range smartphones that Samsung has sold to the company in large numbers, such as the Samsung Galaxy A50. Samsung provides quarterly security updates for other devices, and older models that are about to end support will receive patches at irregular intervals.

Samsung: These devices received Android security patches
The table shows the status of February 2020 and is regularly updated by us. Samsung also has its own overview of security patches. You can find them here.
Samsung does not rely on version updates and security patches, but also distributes so-called feature updates for mobile phones. These usually bring the popular features of today's top smartphones to older models. The installation of security patches and feature updates is no different than the installation of version updates.
