Bluetooth chip is not secure
If you are using the Galaxy S8, you should temporarily not use Bluetooth. According to media reports, a security breach allowed data to be read via radio standards.
- Affected equipment: Galaxy S8, S8 + and Note 8
- Attackers can read data via Bluetooth
- Samsung is tinkering
Jiska Classen, a security researcher from Darmstadt University of Technology, discovered a serious security flaw in the Bluetooth chip of Samsung Galaxy S8. This is derived from a scientific paper that the scientific journal "Der Spiegel" was allowed to see in advance. Therefore, there is no mechanism for encrypting Bluetooth connections-this has been the case since the model was launched in spring 2017.

Change now
Samsung does not use a hardware-based random number generator, but instead relies on the Galaxy S8 as a software solution to encrypt the connection, but the connection generates predictable random numbers. According to experts, an attacker may crack the encryption in minutes or even seconds.
Listen to conversations and read important data
Security holes allow attackers to read data through the Bluetooth interface. At first this didn't sound dangerous, because radio standards are often used in everyday life to stream music to portable speakers. In fact, Bluetooth is also used in more sensitive areas. For example, Der Spiegel magazine wrote that hackers may also eavesdrop on calls made using Bluetooth headsets.
Another possible attack scenario is to steal important data, because Bluetooth also plays a role in communication with wearable devices such as fitness trackers and smart watches. Inputs entered via the Bluetooth keyboard may also be read. Since the Galaxy S8 at that time introduced the Samsung DeX mode, which can convert the mobile phone connected to the dock and display into a micro PC, so this situation is not ridiculous.
However, in order to exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must be in close proximity to the victim. However, it is sufficient to park the car in front of the victim's house. It is not known that the vulnerability is being actively exploited. Samsung will soon respond to this issue with an update. Before that, if you are concerned about security, you can disable Bluetooth on your phone.
Samsung brings security updates
In addition to the Galaxy S8, it is said that the sister models Galaxy S8 + and Galaxy Note 8 are also affected by this issue. Samsung also plans to provide software updates for these models soon. We expect Samsung to eliminate this vulnerability through monthly security updates for its Galaxy smartphones.
