  • Samsung has given an outlook on the innovations of One UI 5.0.
  • The new user interface is based on Android 13.
  • It can already be tested on the S22 and S21.

Google recently released Android 13. Samsung wants to distribute the new cell phone OS to the first devices later this year – together with One UI 5.0, the new version of the in-house user interface for Galaxy cell phones.

This will include some changes beyond the innovations introduced by Google with Android 13, which the company is looking forward to in a blog entry there is already an outlook.

More personalization options

So the update will offer more personalization options. You can now choose from up to 16 preset color themes based on your background image and 12 additional color options for home screens, icons and quick panels to get a UI look that suits your style.

You should also be able to stack widgets of the same size in one place on the home screen to save space. The menus for selecting ring tones and vibration patterns have been revised and should now be accessible more quickly.

You can also expect a new version of the in-house browser Samsung Internet. In version 19, this warns you if you end up on a fake website due to a typo. You can also unlock certain add-ons for Secret Mode, Samsung explains in another Blogpost.

More updates in the works

But these are by no means all innovations. Samsung promises that more new features will gradually be introduced during the test phase. A few weeks ago, a screenshot showing an OCR feature for the gallery app was circulating online. There is also speculation about a WiFi diagnostic function and a special repair mode that is intended to protect your personal data if you have to send in your cell phone.

Test updates beforehand

Android 13 and One UI 5.0 can currently be tested on the Galaxy S22 in Germany and other countries, and Samsung has also released a beta version of the update for the S21 in England and South Korea. Test versions for other models are likely to follow in the near future.

The specialist magazine SamMobile estimates that Samsung will also release a public beta for the S20, as well as the Fold 4, Flip 4, Fold 3, Fold 2 and Z Flip 5G foldable phones. The Note 20 could possibly also benefit from a pre-release version. However, it remains to be seen whether Samsung will roll out all beta versions worldwide or just in South Korea. You can apply for these via the Samsung Members app.

Release in October

Experts expect Samsung to start distributing the update in October. The leaker SuperRoader calls on Twitter October 17th or 19th as release date. However, he does not provide any information as to where his information came from.

However, the date seems quite realistic. Because Samsung will be holding its SDC developer conference on October 12th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. A seminar “What’s new in One UI 5” is also on the agenda.

However, Samsung has not yet revealed an official schedule for the update to Android 13 and which devices will receive it. The manufacturer usually announces its rollout plan when the first update is published in the Samsung Members app.

Samsung is currently still rolling out Android 12. It should be completed in September with the release of the update for the Galaxy Tab A8 in Germany. At the same time, Samsung is distributing Android 12L to selected devices – starting with the Galaxy Tab S8 and the Galaxy S22.
