Even if it’s hard to believe, Akira Toriyama has drawn more than just Dragon Ball. For example, the little-noticed manga was penned by him. Although hardly anyone knows the brand, Bandai Namco is now working on a video game adaptation of it.
It’s kind of strange that nobody really knows Sand Land. Because the manga from the year 2000 comes from Akira Toriyama. That’s right, the Akira Toriyama who created Dragon Ball, one of the biggest anime and manga brands of all time. Now his little-noticed work is supposed to be lifted out of the desert sand, because in addition to an animated series, Bandai Namco is also working on a role-playing game.

The style is not reminiscent of the Dragon Quest series, after all, Toriyama also created the monster designs for this. As the name subtly suggests, you move through a desert world where humans and demons suffer from massive water shortages. Among other things, you accompany the characters Belzebub, Prince of the Underworld, Sheriff Rao and the demon Sheef.
The fights take place in the third person, the entire design of the open world is reminiscent of classics like Mad Max. The wacky vehicles with which the characters race through the endless sand are also not entirely innocent. But dinosaurs also seem to carry you through the desert as mounts.
Sand Land will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. According to the current status, players on Xbox One are left empty-handed and Switch gamers are also looking into the tube. Even with the release date, disillusionment is currently the order of the day. Because neither an exact date nor an approximate period of time is currently known.
