The development of Scalebound started with high hopes before the project was finally scrapped. But now there could possibly be a comeback for the game.
Platinum Games’ ambitious action game Scalebound was originally planned to be exclusive to Xbox, but the whole story didn’t turn out as planned. Instead, the title was completely scrapped before it saw the light of day – or maybe not?
An insider now claims that developer Platinum Games is having “early discussions” with Microsoft Xbox to revive Scalebound after all. The last chapter of the once Egyptian Xbox exclusive game including AI dragons does not seem to have been written yet, although the setting was officially communicated in January 2017. Platinum Games is therefore of the opinion that it does not have to stay that way.
The said insider is by no means unknown in the gaming scene, as it is the usually very well-informed Shpeshal_Nick from the XboxEra podcast, who has now commented on the potential comeback of Scalebound. However, he also makes it clear that the newly flared up discussions and negotiations between Microsoft and Platinum Games do not necessarily mean that work on the title will actually be resumed.
In addition, the insider states that it is also unclear whether the development would then start all over again, or whether Platinum Games will build on the earlier status and continue there – should the work be continued at all.
Platinum had already emphasized in 2019 in the person of Atsushi Inaba that the studio would like to return to the title. At the beginning of 2022 there were still corresponding efforts, as Scalebound director Hideki Kamiya confirmed at the time. Are your efforts still fruitful? In any case, we’ll keep you posted!
