The finale of Fallout doesn’t exactly skimp on revelations. Not only does the story of Howard Cooper (Walton Goggins) take a surprising turn, the past of Hank (Kyle MacLachlan) and Vault 33 is also explained.

Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury), however, remains more enigmatic. While we learn more about her goals and her past, one very big question still remains unanswered. Her actress is now commenting on this in an interview.

Beware of spoilers: The following is about important events from the Fallout series. If you haven’t watched it to the end yet, then it’s best not to read any further and watch our spoiler-free video instead:

How could Moldavians survive?

As is revealed over the course of the series, Moldaver lived before the nuclear war, back then as the scientist Ms. Williams. After her company was bought by Vault-Tec, she secretly fought against the builders of the infamous fallout shelters. Because they had kept a groundbreaking technology, cold fusion, under wraps simply for their own benefit.

About 200 years later, Moldaver reappears as a resident of the city of Shady Sands. Apparently she was also friends with Lucy’s mother. However, the question arises: How could Moldavians survive for such a long time?

Answer in season 2?

Actress Sarita Choudhury was also puzzled by this fact and wanted to find out more from showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. However, the two remained quite secretive. Choudhury now knows something about their fate after the nuclear war, but by no means everything:

I know something I’m not allowed to say. But it was obviously my biggest question. So I guess it’s yours too, and hopefully it’ll be revealed as Fallout gets more life.

Since the Amazon series has just been renewed for a second season, the chances are not bad that Moldaver’s past will be examined in more detail. Fallout already has two possible explanations for surviving nuclear war:

  • Ghule: Anyone who mutates into a ghoul due to radioactive radiation lives an exceptionally long time, for example The ghoul. However, the transformation is accompanied by strong physical changes that cannot be seen in Moldaver.
  • Kryopods: The overseers of Vault 33 were put into cryosleep for over 200 years and then woken up again. Did Moldaver also get hold of such a cryopod?

We already know some details about the now confirmed second season of Fallout. For example, the showrunners promised that we would meet an infamous creature from the games. There is also news about the New Californian Republic. Chief developer Todd Howard from Bethesda isn’t revealing anything specific, but he assumes we’ll see the faction again.
