The filming of season 2 of the Netflix series The Witcher was actually in full swing to guarantee the start of the new episodes in spring 2021. Now, however, the production of the second season episodes has been stopped to counter the spread of the coronavirus.
And that could originally scheduled for the start of season 2 in early 2021 to move it back.
The Witcher is not the only "serial victim" of the corona virus
The Witcher is of course by no means the first and only TV series in which the shooting or production was paused. It will not be the last one either. Amazons The Lord of the Rings, all Marvel series for Disney + or Season 4 of Stranger Things are affected by global action against Covid-19.

The Witcher: start of season 2 in danger?
The fact that The Witcher is now also affected should surprise fans of the Geralt von Riva portrayed by Henry Cavill: At the weekend it was said that the Netflix series would not be affected by a two-week production stop – which has now been refuted by a report by Deadline.
A report by the insider website RedanianIntelligence shows that the originally targeted start of season 2 in spring 2021 could now be jeopardized. Accordingly, one is currently preparing for that the break from shooting for more than two weeks could last – which most likely affects not only The Witcher but also many other film and series productions.

So it is quite possible that Netflix will not be able to meet the originally planned start date of the second season of The Witcher and the release of the new episodes will be postponed. At the moment, fans should expect Season 2 of The Witcher to not appear in early 2021 – but probably still in 2021.
In season 1, a total of fourteen months passed between the start of shooting and the start of the episodes – which may also be due to Netflix's efforts to release season 1 for Christmas 2019. Accordingly, one could speculate that season 2 should start in April or May 2021, which is very likely no longer the case.
Of course, post-production, in which editing, musical composition, effects and, if necessary, re-shoots are completed, should not be neglected. But of course this still depends on how the corona pandemic will continue in the coming weeks and months – and so that those responsible are available or not.
