Sega revealed some information about its future business and development strategy.
Sega Published today [PDF] Earnings for the fiscal year ending March 31. In addition to the usual digital classification, the publisher also shared some insights into its near-term and long-term plans.
First of all, Sega mentioned the multiplayer shooting game developed by Creative Assembly, although it did not provide any details about this mysterious game. However, Sega does believe that this is a big project and will become a key part of its strategy in the coming years.
Sega is also studying its rear catalog of games and series of games that are recognized worldwide, to study how they might be suitable for remakes or remakes. The document cited many examples, such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Radio, Space Channel 5, Shinobi, Virtua Fighter, Altered Beast, Dead of Dead, etc., but they seem to be just: examples and should not be taken literally.
Having said that, the remake of “House of the Dead” is still in progress, and “Virtua Fighter” is still in progress, so Sega seems to be reviving some of its old brands.
In addition to these near-term plans, Sega also hopes to create a “super game” in the next five years. It is not clear if this is just an ambitious quote about a potentially large game, or a reference to the Creative Assembly shooter. Nevertheless, Sega’s goal is to build a global brand.
Since it will be a new IP, the initial profit is expected to be lower, but the publisher hopes that it will gradually increase over time and become a new staple.
