When a new operating system such as Windows 11 appears, one question is particularly important: Can my current PC handle it? Microsoft offers an official integrity check or the “PC Health Check” for this, but the “WhyNotWin11” tool is a highly recommended alternative.

It comes from the programmer Robert C. Maehl who found the right one Github Project initially in Forum of the well-known Youtube channel Linus Tech Tips has linked. The tool is now so well known that the free download can also be found on websites such as Heise.de is to be found.

If you are wondering in general whether gamers should switch to Windows 11 at all and what surprises and disappointments the new operating system has to offer, you can find out more at GameStar Plus:

What makes WhyNotWin11 better?

While the integrity check in its current form only indicates a single problem such as a missing or not activated TPM module, WhyNotWin11 lists all the important factors clearly and highlighted in color:

Microsoft has already improved the PC Health Check and as part of the update announced on Twitterthat they will continue to work on optimizing the integrity check. In its current form, however, it is nowhere near as clear as WhyNotWin11.

What are the catches of WhyNotWin11? At the moment, from our point of view, there are two main aspects to be mentioned:

  • It’s not an official tool. The analysis is based on the known system requirements and appears to be working correctly. However, the program cannot guarantee that Windows 11 will run on your PC.
  • Windows does not currently recognize the tool as safe. This is Notebookcheck laut sea currently still the case because of a missing digital signature, but you can still start the program if you wish. We assume that this can be done safely, but even in this case there is no guarantee that it will be.

Also not to be forgotten: The boundaries in terms of compatibility are partly fluid. For example, Ryzen 1000 models are not officially supported by Windows 11, but you can very likely still use the operating system (an aspect that WhyNotWin11 identifies well with an orange marking with a question mark).
