game news Seven years after the Kickstarter campaign, they are refunding all donors for not being able to afford their FPS
Sometimes all the gold in the world is not enough to carry out a project! This game, which was a huge hit on Kickstarter 7 years ago, is also a sad example…
A story that started so well…
Today we have bad news for you… 7 years ago, Bulkhead Interactive featured a specific Battalion 1944 on Kickstarter, a promising multiplayer game for PC and console that wants to recreate the intensity of war and rediscover the sensations of the first online games. The title specifically refers to the first Medal of Honor or Call of Duty 2.
Bulkhead Interactive’s title quickly took off: the software’s Kickstater campaign met its goals quickly, the better it surpassed them. It only asked for £100,000, equivalent to $129,300, but the campaign ended up triple that, equivalent to £317,281 ($410,000). With such a sum, we could only expect the best for the studio, but unfortunately, as you can imagine, things didn’t go as planned.
… But who ended badly!
If Battalion 1944 saw the light of day, it was only in its Early Access version, released in early 2018. As expected, despite some technical issues, it was a success. Gamers can therefore expect their game to land on their favorite platforms in the near future. But without really knowing why, the title has not given any real sign of life since then. The promised console versions obviously never saw the light of day and worse, the title never received an update after its release.
Months and years passed and players quickly realized that it was necessary to mourn this dead project. For four years the title was also small, and it is only in 2022 that we learn that Bulkhead has decided to stop developing the game… Before making available a free version of its evolution called Battalion: Legacy. The question we are now asking is: what happened to the money from the Kickstarter campaign?
Good news for gamers!
For almost a year, the question of raising money for Kickstarter campaigns has been glossed over, but today we finally have the answers! Bulkhead actually emailed all of the players who helped fund the game to share the good news: If you want a refund, you can already submit a request to the studio. Please note: If you want to be sure of your money back, you must complete the survey within 30 days. Note that the refund will be processed via PayPal (ie if you were involved in funding and want a refund you must have a PayPal account).
What is important to us is the public nature of our engagement with our players and the fact that we are players ourselves. That’s how we want to be treated. (…) For us it is not a question of money, but a question of ethics. Joe Brammer, PDG by Bulkhead
