  • Apple has announced iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.
  • At the same time, the manufacturer has revealed which devices will receive an update.
  • Apple is sorting out significantly more iPhones than expected.

Apple announced iOS 16 at its WWDC developer conference. The software update should be available for free download on your iPhone in autumn, but only if you use an iPhone 8 or newer. Apple is discontinuing software support for five iPhones with iOS 16.

Already at the beginning of the year there were reports about the end of support for the iPhone 6s (Plus) and the iPhone SE (2016), but now the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are also affected – a shock for many fans.

These Apple devices will no longer receive updates

The following models will no longer receive an update to iOS 16 or iPadOS 16.

When updating from iOS 13 to iOS 14 and when switching from iOS 14 to 15, the manufacturer from Cupertino did not exclude any devices. But now Apple is consistently breaking old habits.

On the other hand, Apple is more lenient with the update to iPadOS 16. As previously assumed, the iPad mini 4 and the iPad Air 2 will no longer receive an update. The iPad mini 5 and the first iPad Pro generation, which were also considered candidates for “retirement”, will receive another update.
