This week, Yacht Club Games hosted a special 10th anniversary livestream for Shovel Knight, revealing a brand new version of the modern classic.
Sometimes you see something like “Shovel Knight is 10 years old” and it instantly kills you, but even then you have to ignore it and move on. Or, well, don’t ignore it entirely, because during the NES Retro Gaming 10th Anniversary Livestream, Yacht Club Games announced Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX, the “ultimate edition” of “the adventure that started it all.” This new version of the game has a lot of new features, the biggest of which is the addition of online multiplayer.
Yacht Club explains: “For the first time, you can use the power of Rewind to perfect your platforming skills, or use Save States to pause and plan your next move. With over 300 classic gameplay-twisting cheats, you can customize your experience to make it as challenging or bizarre as you like. All of these cheats can now be enabled at the same time, providing endless ways to remix your adventure. In short, this is the definitive edition of Shovel of Hope. It’s also our way of preserving the game’s historical features, ensuring these elements remain available for future generations of players. With new multiplayer features and other enhancements, we hope it meets all your wishes.”

The most exciting thing, though, is the trailer for the new Shovel Knight game. A trailer for the next game has been revealed, and it’s actually just a 3D version of the Yacht Club logo, strongly hinting that the next game in this beloved series will be a fully 3D game.
“We’ve dedicated ourselves to creating an experience that not only honors Shovel Knight’s legacy, but also pioneers groundbreaking, innovative gameplay mechanics,” said Yacht Club in announcing the news. “This isn’t just another sequel, this is a bold new adventure that will take Shovel Knight into a whole new dimension of gameplay. We’re not ready to reveal everything yet, but rest assured, this game will deliver thrilling action, expanded mechanics, and all the timeless charm that has made the Shovel Knight series such a success.”
Yacht Club also said that they have been working on the game for four years, but now you can only wait and see what it is like. In the meantime, you can look forward to Yacht Club’s Game Boy Color-inspired game Mina the Hollower, which currently has no release date but does have a nice new trailer.
