In the past few months, streamer Shurjoka has repeatedly been the victim of violent insults and threats. Now she is resorting to harsh measures to make life more difficult for her opponents and critics.
For months, Pia “Shurjoka” Scholz has been facing sometimes violent hostility online. Without going into more detail, the statements range from insults to threats of the most disgusting kind and often exceed any limits. Just a few weeks ago, Tim “KuchenTV” Heldt received a permanent ban from the streaming platform Twitch.
With Nemesis316 the next streamer has now been hit. Shurjoka sought a DMCA strike against him, as she stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Simply put, she asserted copyright on her own content, which Nemesis316 responds to. Within the streamer scene, such an approach is frowned upon, as many content creators earn their daily bread with reactions to other streams and videos.
Nemesis316 actually specialized in Dead by Daylight in his broadcasts. In the last few months, however, he has shifted his focus further and further towards “political and socially critical content”, as he himself states. In the course of this realignment, Shurjoka also repeatedly came into his sights.
In the stream that got him banned, he stated that in his opinion Shurjoka was incapable of criticism and that he rejected discussions outright.
In the future, Shurjoka announced that it would regularly resort to DMCA strikes if necessary. Because, as she explains, Twitch doesn’t do enough: “The rights to my video material [ist] more important for Twitch than the integrity of its content creators.” She herself doesn’t think this approach is great, but she simply doesn’t know what else to do.
However, she limits her approach and makes it clear: she does not distribute strikes arbitrarily. So she writes on
Things got really bad for Shurjoka with her open criticism of Hogwarts Legacy earlier this year. The reason for this was the author of the books, JK Rowling, who repeatedly caused heated tempers with transphobic statements. When Shurjoka received the award for “Player of the Year 2023” at the German Computer Games Award, sentiment against her boiled over again – not least because big content creators like MontanaBlack railed against her.
