Although the saga Alien has been successfully reborn with its latest installment released this summer, there was a time when the franchise was not at its best. Without a doubt, the turning point was Alien 3which generated quite a bit of controversy at the time and is currently considered by many to be the beginning of the decline of the saga.
Now, more than 30 years after its premiere, its protagonist, Sigourney Weaverhas spoken at length about his experience on this highly controversial film during an interview with the outlet DeadlineDuring the chat, the actress admits that, for her, the film was not that bad and that, in her opinion, it was mostly the studio’s fault that the production became extremely chaotic.
“I think David had to be on the phone and fight every day so that we could shoot what he wanted us to shoot the next day, and I regret that he didn’t get the chance to do his own script before we started. It’s very difficult that way. I felt the lack of support from the studio. It was a transitional moment where the studios stopped thinking about making good movies and started thinking about not losing money. They had the great idea of putting David Fincher in his first movie, but not supporting him was idiotic. I’ve heard recently that David disowns the movie, and I’m sorry because I loved working with him, and I think we made a good movie.”
Weaver has repeatedly stressed that the problem was not the director, as she said working with Fincher was a very rewarding experience despite all the problems that arose during filming. In short, the actress mainly blames the studio, as they began filming the movie without having completed the script, and many of the scenes that the director wanted to shoot were scrapped by the production company’s decision.
It’s clear that the actress remains grateful for having starred in one of the most legendary horror sagas in the industry, but she also lets it be seen that she ended up quite disappointed and that her future in the franchise is closed… at least for the moment, since she has not wanted to completely rule out the possibility of returning to the franchise in the not-too-distant future.
