To say Silent Hill 2 Remake is expected is an understatement. And a new video revealed by the Bloober team has you pondering the future rendering of the game.
If we trust the latest rumours, announcements about Silent Hill 2 Remake should fall shortly. We can optimistically expect something new at the next State of Play. A PlayStation event designed to focus on upcoming PS5 exclusives like Bloober Team’s horror game.
We’ll see, but in the meantime we can already tremble at the visual aspect of this mythical survival horror. The future graphic reference in the field of horror? It is possible.
Silent Hill 2 Remake looks better than ever thanks to Unreal Engine 5
We saw it with the announcement teaser, Silent Hill 2 remake should be beautiful. A real break with the studio’s previous games (The Medium, Blair Witch…). At least if the sequences shown aren’t pipeautées, even if that’s rarely the case these days. We will therefore take the Polish studio at their word. But to convince yourself of the title’s true potential, we can point you to a video recently released by the Bloober team.
It’s not directly about Silent Hill 2 Remake, but about the next Layers of Fear. Two productions in development that share an identical graphics engine, Unreal Engine 5. This Unreal Engine 5 Showcase video focuses on different elements such as: lumensa dynamic lighting solution that ray tracing or Niagara. A next-generation system for visual effects like particles. What we also noticed about 1min16 is the ability to change the decor.
Almost instantly, the wall of a corridor can actually change completely. Why is that important? Because we immediately perceive the application that the developers can make of it within the framework of Silent Hill 2 Remake. Such a process should make for a more impressive transition to the other world. As a reminder, the other world called “Otherworld” is an even more nightmarish version of the environments in which players evolve.
An insurmountable, high-risk bet?
So if Silent Hill 2 Remake has the cards in hand to be great, the frame rate has to be right too. This is one of the weak points of current bloober team productions. But with experience, Unreal Engine 5’s technological advances, and its “ease of use,” we hope slowdowns and other fluid issues will become a thing of the past.
Aside from the technical challenge, the Polish studio and Konami play big in the Silent Hill 2 remake. Despite the burden of all these years, the original remains a monument of horror. In an interview, Sam Barlow (Her Story, Telling Lies…), who worked on Silent Hill Origins and Silent Hill Shattered Memories, expressed his concerns. Impossible for him that it won’t be disappointing in the sense that people will inevitably be dissatisfied with the result. On the microphone of computer gameshe said « Personally, I’m less optimistic about a remaster. Silent Hill 2 Remake is also the biggest poisoned giveaway in gaming. I mean good luck to them because I don’t see how it’s possible without pissing people off. ».
Besides, Bloober Team’s small team must also have the pressure because of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Two remakes that set the bar very high and were a hit. But everything seems to be going well and apparently Silent Hill 2 Remake is set to maintain its 2023 release exclusively for PS5 console and PC.
