Keiichiro Toyama, creator of Silent Hill and director of the upcoming Slitterhead, says he wouldn’t be “unsatisfied” even if it was the last game he made.

It’s been a while since Toyama released a new game, and he was the director behind the original Silent Hill, as well as the Siren and Gravity Rush series. Gravity Rush 2 was the last game the director worked on, having been completed back in 2017. Later this year, he will release Slitterhead, the first game from his newest studio, Bokeh Game Studio. While Toyama has been in the industry for many years, he’s not old, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t thinking about his future as a developer. In an interview with GamesRadar, the developer talked about his hopes for the future, and what his goals are in the industry.

“On a personal level, I’m almost 50,” Toyama said. “Even if this is the last game I make, I won’t be dissatisfied.” Notably, he did make it clear that he has no intention of stopping making games, but that he’s thinking most about laying the foundation for future game developers to succeed. “I opened this studio, and there are actually a lot of new people coming in, younger people. I’m more concerned about what I can leave behind for them. Obviously, I’m not saying this is my last game. But I think my last mission is to leave a path for these young creators to do what they want to do.”

It’s great to see, especially since the industry tends to put the same names at the top of the food chain, so hopefully Bokeh Game Studios gets a chance for some young talent to flourish somewhere in the future.

Last month, the studio finally showed off some Slitterhead gameplay footage at the Summer Game Fest, and it looks honestly terrible (in a good way). Luckily, the release date isn’t far away, currently set for November 8th on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
