Concord, a major PS5 exclusive, is in absolute trouble and its studio has just made a very radical decision. We weren’t really expecting it, a very unpleasant surprise.
A heavy blow for Sony, a real shock came just as the latest exclusive was abandoned. We stopped reporting on it since the release of Concord on August 23, 2024: the game is struggling to find players. Sales are estimated at 25,000 units at most, it takes several minutes to find a part… In reality, the servers are empty, and now we know that they will remain empty for quite a while, if not permanently.
It is the crash for Concord…
With a heavy heart, Studio Firewalk issued a press release PlayStation Blog. An admission of failure that hurts if we want to make it clear. The game has qualities but also many flaws that unfortunately outweigh them. Releasing what is essentially a multiplayer shooter, a new license to boot, and charging a fee for it when the competition in the genre is extremely tough, was a bet that the studio and Sony clearly could not keep.
Therefore, it was decided to simply stop the costs. Concord will be taken offline on September 6
… but all may not be lost for PS5 exclusivity
However, Concord is not dead, at least not yet. The press release makes it clear that this most radical decision will be implemented “Waiting to find the best way forward”
So maybe this is just a goodbye and not a real goodbye. The game could very well return in a different format. A few tweaks and a free-to-play model could save its skin. Or maybe it’s a “soft” way to finally bury the franchise by moving on.
