Single Player vs. Multiplayer – Which is Better?

It’s a debate older than the first video game, older than mankind, maybe even older than the dawn of time: single player or multiplayer?

Already in primeval cave paintings there are indications of emotional disputes of our ancestors, whether they prefer to explore a game story all by themselves, or give other players in MMOs the twelve.

But today we want to settle this dispute once and for all – at the CAGGTUS in Leipzig, live and in color.

GameStar Talk: All videos and podcasts at a glance

We have formed two teams for this: Micha and Lennard represent classic single-player games with a story focus and have teamed up in co-op in an absolutely exceptional situation. Jules and Benedict from MeinMMO On the other hand, they need interaction with other people – and sometimes want to brag a bit about how bad their armor is.

Both sides go into the race confident of victory: For Micha and Lennard, other players ruin every well-written story if they interrupt or sprint directly to the next quest giver. For Jules and Benedict, it’s other players that make their experience special – because what about all the friendships, relationships, and marriages made thanks to multiplayer games?

But what about important story content hidden behind a multiplayer constraint, such as the ending of Arthas’ story? Who was born in the ultimate single player experience, but whose ending can only be experienced in a large WoW raid? Just annoying or a clever story trick?

But everyone agrees on one point: Multiplayer is not always multiplayer and has to be well thought out – and single player as well. You can see how the fight ended in the video above or hear it here in handy podcast format:
