Sky via cable: The direct reception method is the cheapest option for many

There are several ways to access Sky’s streaming service. One of them is cable TV. However, you have to meet a few requirements to receive it.

Sky’s pay-TV program provides you with live sports, exciting series and current films. However, you don’t necessarily have to have a smart TV to use Sky’s offering. As long as you have subscribed to one of the various program packages, you can receive Sky via satellite, the Internet (IPTV) or cable. We’ll tell you how the latter option works in detail in this guide.

Book and activate Sky for cable TV

The major cable operators such as Unitymedia, Vodafone, NetCologne and Pyur all offer Sky over their networks. If you use one of these providers, you can have the Sky offer activated for you.

The easiest way to book a Sky subscription is via the Sky website. Here you can put together a subscription to suit your taste and select “cable” as the reception type. If required, you can also order the Sky Q receiver for cable TV directly.

Then all you have to do is enter your personal information including your address, choose a shipping option and enter your payment details.

Sky via cable TV: Do I need the Sky Q receiver?

If you take out a Sky subscription, you can decide whether you want to use your own DVB-C receiver or the Sky Q receiver. If you already have an HD receiver from your cable provider, you can usually receive Sky programs via this. This is easily possible via Vodafone GigaTV and Unitymedia Horizon, for example. With the corresponding subscription, reception via cable is therefore cheaper than other types of reception.

On the other hand, you can order the Sky Q receiver for cable TV free of charge. All you have to do is pay the shipping fee of 12.90 dollars once and connect the receiver to your TV and cable socket. This gives you unrestricted access to all Sky functions.

Another option is to connect Sky to a smart card with a CI+ module. When using this method, remember to enter the smart card number or receiver number during the ordering process.

Is DAZN also available for Sky cable customers?

Since 2021, the sports streaming service DAZN can be booked directly through Sky. This allows you to use both the DAZN app and the two TV channels DAZN 1 and DAZN 2. If you get DAZN through Sky, billing is done through Sky customer service.

Please note, however, that DAZN 1 and DAZN 2 are not currently available on the Vodafone Unitymedia cable network. Only the DAZN app is available here. However, you can receive the channels via other cable networks, such as Pyur.

Put together your own Sky subscription

With Sky’s modular system, you can put together your subscription as you wish using the Entertainment Plus, Cinema, Sport, Bundesliga and Kids packages.

For sports fans, the combination of sports and Bundesliga is particularly suitable. If, however, you are more into films and series, the combination of entertainment and cinema packages is the right choice.
