She’s been making gaming videos for nearly a decade, but Skyrim grandma Shirley Curry has announced that she’s semi-retiring.
You know her, you love her, she’s the people’s gaming grandma, she’s Shirley! If you don’t know her, the “Skyrim Grandma” is an 88-year-old YouTuber who primarily plays games like (you guessed it) Skyrim. She’s been making YouTube videos for nine years, but yesterday she posted a video called “No More Gaming Videos,” in which she gives some life updates and announces that she no longer plans to make Let’s Games. “I’m not going to record games anymore,” Curry says in the video.

“I seem to spend most of my time sitting in front of my computer. Lately, I’ve walked in, looked at my computer, thought ‘I have to make a video today’, and then just shook my head and said ‘I don’t want to’. I was just doing it for fun, but it’s not fun anymore. I’m sick of it, I’m tired of it. So I’ve decided now, absolutely decided, that I will no longer make and upload any gaming videos.”
This isn’t her retirement from YouTube, she says she still makes vlogs when she receives a gift or “buys something that I think is really cute.” Thankfully, the comments are about as good as you could hope for, especially considering she explains at the beginning of the video that she’s going to have eye surgery soon.
Back in 2019, Curry said she would appear as an NPC in The Elder Scrolls VI, noting at the time that by the time the game releases, “I’ll be 88!! So I probably won’t be able to play it.” Well, she’s right, she’s 88 and she hasn’t played the game yet, and considering Bethesda only started working on the game last August, we’re still several years away from its release.
