There are those who have nightmares about going back to school, and there are also those who dream of studying at the same Harry Potter School. In the absence of receiving a letter by mail, for millions of fans of books and movies, Hogwarts Legacy has been that dream come true. At least on PC and the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles. And what about the other systems? well this time we have to give bad news.
Through their official channels, Warner Games has announced that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be delayed one month and one day from the original date, so that the new worldwide release date for both versions becomes next Friday. May 5th. If everything goes according to plan, sure. What is this delay due to?
As Warner itself has indicated, Avalanche Software is currently focused on offering the best experience on both eighth-generation systems. In other words, although the contents of all versions are shared, a balance must be found to make the experience as enjoyable as possible.
We are overwhelmed and grateful for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the world. The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience across all platforms and we need more time to get there. Hogwarts Legacy will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on May 5, 2023.
Still, and given the sheer scale and care taken to deliver a highly detailed Hogwarts Castle, it will be interesting to contrast the milestones of the versions already available with those due out this spring and summer, because we don’t forget that Warner also promised carry Hogwarts Legacy to Nintendo Switch on July 25.
Will we see new content in Hogwarts Legacy?
Warner and Avalanche Software’s priority is clear: launch Hogwarts Legacy on announced systems over the next few months, though not at any price. Repeat the case of Batman: Arkham Knight Seeing the special bond that fans have with the magical world saga would be a major mistake. And after that?
We have the double response from those responsible and, technically, the doors are not closed to add new content. Alan Tew told our fellow students IGN what “We have been very focused on bringing it to life [a Hogwarts Legacy]so at the moment there are no plans for DLCs“, while Eric J Brown qualified via Twitter the words of his partner to Forbes in the same direction.
There are people out there who don’t have a game on their hands yet, and we don’t want to let those people down.
In other words, until all versions of Hogwarts Legacy are on the promised systems, they won’t consider making additional content. And we are not going to deny it, our colleague Alberto has put very interesting ideas on the table, starting with the possibility of playing Quidditch.
We do not know if the delay of the PS4 and Xbox versions will also condition that of Nintendo Switch or it is being addressed independently. However, this will mean that, should the door open to creating more content for the game or a major expansion, twe will burn more to see it announced and, by extension, receive it.
Either way, Warner Games has plans to make 2023 very memorable: a Hogwarts Legacy we must add the incursion of the Suicide Squad that will come out just 20 days after the eighth generation versions and the very peculiar leak of Mortal Kombat 12 by the parent company, which has not been officially shown or announced, but which is already an open secret.
It turns out, to say the least, curious that the start of the course at Hogwarts school on PS4, Xbox One and Swith more or less coincides with the start of the holidays for students of all ages. And despite the fact that this month of delay will be a chore for millions of fans, we have something clear: if the same sensations are transmitted as in the new generation, the wait will be worth it.
