News JVTech Smartphone: Samsung offers to clone your voice
Currently only available in South Korea, Samsung’s Bixby Custom Voice Creator feature allows owners of certain branded smartphones to clone their voice to automatically answer the phone without having to pick up the phone.
What if you didn’t answer the phone yourself, You let an artificial intelligence take care of it? The proposal already exists, particularly on terminals Google Pixelwhich propose unwanted calls using speech synthesis through a service called call screen
Samsung also offers it with Bixby Text Call, a solution that allows the user to write messages with audio during a phone conversation. This is a solution that may be necessary if you are not in a situation where you can answer the phone by voice, but You still want to pick up.
Samsung clones your voice on Galaxy S23 smartphones
At least in its country of origin, the South Korean company is now going even further. As a matter of fact, Koreans with a newer Galaxy device can now use Bixby Custom Voice Creator. “Users can record various phrases for Bixby to analyze and create an AI-generated copy of their voice and pitch.”, explain the brand.
The idea, of course, is not to let the smartphone run free with the mission of answering the phone.
A concept that deserves to be tested, but when?
At present, Samsung gives no hints about the launch of Bixby Custom Voice Creator outside of South Korea. Bixby Text Call isn’t available everywhere either: it just arrived in One UI 5.1 in the US, which is the first English-speaking country to benefit from it.
In the near future it will be impossible to know if Bixby Custom Voice Creator will be able to deceive during a conversation with a human.. However, it’s hard to imagine that this could be really misleading, since the problem of latency has yet to be overcome: to reply to a real person with a synthetic voice, a written answer has to be written, which the software then has to adapt. It’s bound to be less natural than real conversation.
However, the suggestion can help and can be refined over time to gain precision and efficiency. It remains to be seen when Samsung will offer it in other countries. However, what we do know is that the number of devices this solution can be used on is limited: Bixby Custom Voice Creator is currently only available on Samsung Galaxy S23 series terminals.
