Only recently there were rumors about this, now it’s official: The action MOBA is getting a sequel with Smite 2 – based on the modern Unreal Engine 5.
On the occasion of the Smite World Championships, Titan Forge Games has now nailed it and officially announced Smite 2; Previously there was speculation that the sequel to the long-running action MOBA was about to be announced, which is also celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
The new generation of third-person action MOBAs will, above all, make significant progress from a technical point of view, after all, the sequel was developed on the basis of the modern Unreal Engine 5. Accordingly, Smite 2 is now coming to the PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), the Steam Deck and the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles. Pre-orders are now possible.
The sequel wants to take everything you love about the previous Smite and package it in more modern graphics with new animations and gameplay optimizations. The interface is refined, there is updated audio, clearer spell effects and new physics-based skills for gods like Ymir. In short: the bottom line is that the developers want to improve everything in the game somehow.
The move to new backend technology also brings cross-play, a leaderboard overhaul that includes new ranks and structures, and improved matchmaking. There are new pantheons of gods, equipment improvements, overhauled relic and item systems, and deeper strategy. In addition to a vision control slot and new dynamic map objectives, Smite 2 also introduces two power sources – Strength and Intelligence – to diversify each god’s skillset and allow for more nuanced and varied playstyles. Last but not least, the item store has also been redesigned and is intended to simplify the creation of items.
By the way, you don’t want to forget the over 40 million existing Smite players when making the transition to Smite 2: There is a legacy program that grants you legacy gems for every gem you previously spent in the original Smite, which can be spent on new purchases can. The Divine Legacy program will feature eleven unique skins, badges, gold mastery levels, and cross-generation skins that work across both games. Starting in 2024, all new gem-purchasable skins in Smite will be cross-generational.
Incidentally, the first Smite should also continue to be supported; the servers remain active even after starting Smite 2. There is currently no start date for the successor.
