The closed beta of Valorant has been running since April 7, the tactical shooter should appear in summer 2020 and games like CS: GO will outpace the developers' plan. If you managed to get a key in the Twitch streams, you may be wondering how to unlock all ten Valorant heroes.
As already announced by Riot in March, only five characters will be available after Valorant starts, while the remaining five are waiting to be unlocked or bought by you.
How exactly that works and how that Microtransactions in the closed beta of the tactical shooter work, we explain to you in the following overview.
Valorant: This is how you unlock new characters in the closed beta
When you start Valorant, you can choose from five different heroes, while you still have to unlock the remaining five. There are two ways to do this:
- Play and collect XP: As soon as you are in Valorant at level 5 or 10, you will receive a free agent reward. You can use them to unlock one of the remaining five Valorant heroes. How quickly you reach each level depends on your experience points earned. Players are currently reporting that after four to five matches they have earned enough XP to level up and unlock new heroes.
- Spend real money: If you absolutely want to play with a certain hero who has not yet been unlocked, you can also invest your real savings in Valorant. You can use microtransactions to buy the in-game currency (so-called »Valorant Points«, or VP for short) in order to unlock the remaining characters in addition to weapon or hero skins.

Overview of all Valorant agents
You can try out new heroes before unlocking them: Regardless of whether you unlock the remaining five characters from Valorant with "free agent" rewards or real money, you have the opportunity to try them out in training mode.
You don't get a pig in a poke with it, but you can get a feel for whether you are getting warm with a particular hero before the activation.

How do microtransactions work in Valorant?
Microtransactions are already part of Valorant and should also appear in the finished game – not unlike League of Legends from the same studio. Since developer Riot Games is working on the principle, prices and unlockable content can change until the release.
You already have the opportunity to invest real money in new skins for weapons or characters, for example. The real money prices for the so-called Valorant Points (VP) are currently as follows:
- 475 VP for 4.99 euros
- 1000 VP for 9.99 euros
- 2050 VP for 19.99 euros
- 3650 VP for 34.99 euros
- 5350 VP for 49.99 euros
- 11000 VP for 99.99 euros

VPs will be returned for the final release
Riot Games has already announced that Valorant Points, which you are now buying with real money, will get back in the finished game with a bonus of 20 percent.
In concrete terms, this means that for the final release of Valorant, for example, you will receive 12,000 VPs if you bought 10,000 VPs during the closed beta phase. A reimbursement in real money is excluded.
