Game news Sol Cresta: The wondrous sequel to Terra Cresta by PlatinumGames shows us gameplay
It’s a 40+ year old franchise that is set to revive PlatinumGames. Funnily enough, the development studio made us believe in a farce every time we found out about it on April 1st. But four months after his last announcement, Sol Cresta proves again that he exists.
We therefore had to wait a few months until we heard news from the Sol Cresta project again. During the PlayStation Indies event yesterday, the PlatinumGames studio and Sony presented us with a new trailer that highlights the game’s gameplay.
The result of the collaboration between PlatinumGames and Hamster Corporation, Sol Cresta invites us to take control of three ships with multiple shot formations to choose the strategy that best suits the different levels of this vertically scrolling shoot’em-up.
For the occasion the creative director of the projectwho is none other than Hideki Kamiya (Resident Evil 2, Okami, Bayonetta 1 and 2), spoke for a long time in an article from the PlayStation blog to remember the making of Sol Cresta and the long journey full of pitfalls he had to face.
This confirms that Sol Cresta completes the Cresta series and forms a trilogy with the episodes Moon Cresta (1980) and Terra Cresta (1985).. This idea of bringing a third part to life came about three years ago when Kamiya was thinking about her desire to experiment with other games in addition to the action games that are the studio’s trademark.
During a conversation with Atsushi Inaba, the studio gave the project a boost. Kamiya first wanted to make sure that the game could offer a unique experience, which is why he decided on the three-fighter vertical shooter that we know today.
The Cresta series was a finished base material for Kamiya who wanted Start with the games he loved to improve playability and features. However, the rights to the original shutters developed by Nichibutsu are owned by the Hamster Corporation. But that ends well, all well, because during the meeting with the group’s president, Satoshi Hamada, the project was directly accepted.
Sol Cresta will therefore appear on PS4 in 2021, initially without further details, as well as on Switch and PC.
