Diablo 4 players who chose to take the wizard path have had a rough time for a while. Wizards are inherently glass cannons with low survivability but incredibly high damage output.
This has always been the risk reward of playing a wizard/magician in Diablo, but Diablo 4 makes their viability much harder to maintain. Everyone hopes that the Vicious patch’s preseason will rectify this and give them a better way to survive.
Unfortunately, Blizzard had other ideas. Patch 1.1.0a, which went live this week, brought a surprising amount of nerfs across the board. The blow to wizards is twofold. Firstly, the structures that rely on it the most have been hit hard due to the massive reduction in crit damage bonuses, but no other class has felt its effects more than the Wizard.
Then, Blizzard also nerfed almost every defensive attribute the wizards relied on armor, which was really their only defense against high-level monsters in the game’s world levels three and four. To add insult to injury, one of the new items introduced in the patch – something players have been fighting for – has an unfortunate side effect.
eyeball is a new unique wand, said to be a gift from Blizzard to Sorcerer players due to the functionality it provides. “Gain the effect of the Ward of Teleportation for free. When you use the Ward of Teleportation to dodge, you will be taken to a random location,” its description reads.
Making your dodge a teleport can be very useful for getting out of trouble, the advantage of doing this is that you get the teleport “for free” without needing to specify it. The problem is, the game can’t handle the random teleportation that comes with having an Oculus equipped.
Motion sickness/seizure warning
As you can see in the video below from Reddit user dreamknoxville, Diablo 4’s camera can’t keep up with the speed and position changes of these short teleports. Considering that this effect persists when you have your Oculus equipped, you may experience motion sickness from normal gameplay.

It doesn’t help that Diablo IV’s camera is zoomed in so much, which further exacerbates the effect of movement, not to mention how those shakes make it harder to keep track of your character and react accurately to what’s going on.
Reddit user KF1eLd jokingly wrote: “Maybe that’s why they nerfed the sorc. They think if you teleport around because you can’t control your character, the mobs can’t attack you.”
Vicious season kicks off today. You absolutely need to do this before you start creating seasonal characters. You’ll thank us later.
