Sonic Team boss promises Sonic Frontiers ‘completely different’ from Breath of the Wild

Takashi Iizuka, Director Sonic Teamwant you to know Sonic Frontier “Not at all similar” to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Look at the upcoming Sonic Frontiers and think, “Hey, this gives Breath of the Wild vibe, it’s going to be very fair.” Granted, it’s a bit superficial, a reductive reaction, but, come on, there’s definitely some Influence, right? Well, despite the apparent similarities, Iizuka said in a recent interview with Shacknews that the two are not alike (spotted by TheGamer).

“From the development [team’s] “From a standpoint, they’re making an action game,” Iizuka said. “So when they think of Breath of the Wild, they think Breath of the Wild is definitely a role-playing game, which is similar to Breath of the Wild. Breath is completely different. The action game they’re making.

“You know, yes, Breath of the Wild applies the same element of freedom as a role-playing game, and they’re taking a linear high-speed action Sonic game and incorporating freedom into it.

“But when we thought, ‘Is this an open world game? Is it similar to Breath of the Wild?’ A lot of people on the team love the Zelda series, they love Breath of the Wild, they’ve played it, but right For them, they don’t really see the similarities between the games.”

Of course, Iizuka did talk about the open area style that is definitely not an open world in the interview, and how it’s different from other games. “This open area format has never been done before. We were trying to find other games in the market, but we couldn’t find anything with linear platform action gameplay but in an open environment.”

If you’re not a perfectionist, you also don’t have to worry about beating all the bosses in the game, because it’s not required. But in turn, that means Sonic Team has to make sure the bosses are fun in their own right.

Fans may also be disappointed to hear that he won’t be in Frontiers, although Iizuka does want to bring him back.

Sonic has been incredible lately, with its second film becoming the highest-grossing video game movie of all time earlier this year, and the entire franchise has now moved 1.5 billion copies worldwide.
