Christmas came early for Sonic fans last night, and the Game Awards revealed the interesting new frontier of Sonic and provided a first look at Sonic the Hedgehog 2 from Paramount Pictures. The surprise trailer reveals that last night’s game awards are full of Hollywood, offering a two-minute first look at Sonic’s star-studded sequel.
From clinging to biplanes to dominating bank trucks, this sporty trailer maintains comic excitement at a pleasant pace. However, for fans, it is not the speed of our nominal hero that makes them lose it on Twitter: it is the addition of the tail and knuckles. Add more CG friends to most of Sonic’s human actors, Tails seems to be faithful and lively, and Idris Elba’s hoarse tone seems very suitable for everyone’s favorite emo Echidna. With Dr. Robotnik working with Knuckles and starting a compelling duel with his new partner and our favorite hedgehog, the prospects of this Hollywood Sonicquel are surprising.
Of course, Jim Carrey replayed the role of Doctor Robot, this time with a ridiculous beard and a soft spot for chaotic emeralds. James Marsden returns and becomes Sonic’s too serious partner, while the creative team behind Deadpool and Fast and Furious is still at the helm. Obviously it is still too early, but let us be cautiously optimistic. With our furry hero chewing hot dogs, joking and catching missiles, this larger epic seems to provide another furry bait family fun.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be released in 2022.
