This is just in: Sonic is dead, and you must solve his murder Sonic the Hedgehog Murdersa real game that won’t make you an April Fool.
April 1st is usually the worst day of the year, mostly because companies announce products we might actually want, just for them to say “haha, we got you, it’s not real you jingle.” Video Games Developers are no exception, often pretending to announce a visual novel version of the game that everyone will actually play, as if it’s some kind of joke. Sega did just that yesterday, except the real twist is that it’s an actual video game and you have to unravel the mystery behind Sonic’s death. No, seriously, this post isn’t April Fools either, here’s the Steam page that proves it.
“It’s Amy Rose’s birthday and she’s throwing a murder mystery party on the Mirage Express!” read the game’s description on Steam. “When Sonic the Hedgehog falls victim to the game, everyone starts to get to the bottom of it. However, something feels a little off – is this really an innocent game, or is something more sinister going on?”
Okay, okay, Sonic isn’t actually dead, but it’s still a super cute concept. The surprising title is a point-and-click visual novel, and it looks like you’ll also be able to play a unique mini-game on a decidedly not real console called DreamGear (wonder where they got that name from).
It also apparently has all of your favorite characters, like Cowboy Knuckles, and Shadow in a Starbucks outfit? See, the Steam page states it’s not canon (but also emphasizes the power of the headcanon, something more powerful).
The game is available now, and it’s completely free. This isn’t the only Sonic-related free-to-play game from Sega recently, as just last week, Sonic Frontiers received its first free update, which adds a photo mode and more.
