S2 update will be in June
In June, Sonos will launch a new application and operating system for its current speakers. It is said that the S2 update brings various advantages. However, the owners of older speakers lag behind.
According to the website The Verge, Sonos plans to release a new application for its current speakers in June, while updating its operating system to Sonos S2. Among other things, the update is designed to provide greater personalization, better operation, and higher trigger audio formats and higher audio bandwidth. Speakers available after May should already be running with S2 software.
In the future, existing products will be divided into two warehouses S1 and S2. Therefore, the old Sonos applications will continue to be provided. The following Sonos speakers are not compatible with the new operating system: CR200, bridge, zone player, Connect [first generation], Connect: Amp [first generation] and Play: 5 [first generation]. Customers using only S1-compatible speakers can continue to control their systems through the S1 application. If you only have S2 devices, you can use the S2 app starting in June.

Customers who have equipment for both systems must be intolerable. S1 and S2 speakers cannot be grouped in an application. Therefore, you will most likely have to use two control applications. Alternatively, you can replace your old Sonos speakers with new ones at an additional cost. The company has an appropriate discount scheme.
