According to the latest information, Sonos will soon release new smart speakers. These should be able to provide spatial sound with the help of several tweeters and woofers. The Verge claims to have learned from confidential sources that the two new speakers will be called Era 100 and Era 300.

In addition, a successor to the Sonos Move is to be worked on, but there is no information about it yet. The first information about the two Era loudspeakers already exists.

Spatial sound and three different voice assistants

The speaker accessories provider healthy already has the first accessories in its range that explicitly mention the product names Era 100 and Era 300. These are wall mounts for the new smart speakers. The release date is April 1, 2023, so you can expect an announcement from Sonos soon.

The Era 300 will be in the upper class in terms of price and sound and will compete directly with the new Apple HomePod and Amazon’s Echo Studio. Therefore, The Verge goes from an award to the 300 Euro out of.

Both Era speakers come with built-in microphones to enable voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Unfortunately, you have to choose one of the two language assistants, since Google does not allow parallel operation.

It is very likely that Sonos will also have its own language assistant on board, which works completely without a cloud and therefore promises a faster reaction than the alternatives from Amazon and Google. The in-house voice assistant probably uses the voice of Giancarlo Esposito, who is known for his villain roles in Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian, among other things.

Like the new Apple HomePod, the Sonos Era 300 will employ multiple tweeters and woofers that face up, back, and front to provide spatial sound. It should therefore be particularly suitable for playing Dolby Atmos content.

Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6 should be on board. If you want to play music with a cable, you can do this via a line-in USB-C connection. A normal jack connection should not be installed.

In addition, the new speaker should be able to automatically adapt to the room acoustics. This is nothing new for Sonos speakers, but so far the calibration has only worked with Apple devices. One can hope that the new Era speakers will also allow this functionality on Android devices.

Much less information exists about the Era 100, but one can assume that it will be the successor to the Sonos One. There may also be a version without voice control of the Era 100. The Verge also assumes that the Era 100 will also support Dolby Atmos.

JBL will also soon be releasing new audio products that were presented at CES. You can read more about their new product lineup here:

It is not yet clear when the new speakers will appear, but an announcement can be expected soon, with the first accessories planned for April 1st.
