ghost of tsushima It might start out better than god of war on PC, but over the weekend it took the top spot for PlayStation’s biggest PC launch yet.
Sony has been slowly but surely bringing some of its big-name games to PC over the past few years, and God of War has held the top spot for launch numbers since it arrived on the platform in 2022. That is, until last week, when Ghost of Tsushima finally arrived on PC. The Sucker Punch-developed game didn’t quite reach God of War’s heights at first, with fewer than 58,000 concurrent players on its first day after launch, while Kratos peaked at just under 74,000 players. However, it turns out that just a little time was all Ghost of Tsushima needed, and quite a few players flocked to it over the weekend, helping it reach a peak of 77,154, well above God of War’s own record (via SteamDB).

The weekend’s surge broke God of War’s long-standing record and pushed Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered into third place with a peak of 66,436 concurrent players. Of course, all of this ignores Hellraiser 2, although that’s a bit special in that it’s releasing on both PlayStation and PC at the same time as Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Other games will be released in the PC year after their PlayStation launches.
These numbers are pretty good for Ghost of Tsushima, considering how many countries it wasn’t released in due to PlayStation’s annoying insistence on PC players connecting their PSN accounts to their games. Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t technically require it if you’re just playing the single-player game, but it does have a multiplayer mode, Legends, which does require it. This particular issue follows on from a similar Hellraiser 2 fiasco, though Sony did remove the requirement after some fan feedback. Maybe Sony will finally get it right!
