Sony is reportedly considering another acquisition, this time involving Halo

acquisition, Halo, involving, reportedly, Sony, time

Sony, yes, the company behind PlayStation, is reportedly considering a bid to acquire Paramount, a company that currently owns major media companies like Nickelodeon and MTV, as well as Paramount Pictures and Paramount+ – although you’ve probably guessed To these latter two – under its umbrella.

Sony and an investment firm called Apollo Global Management are considering making a joint offer to acquire Paramount, but have yet to actually submit such a proposal, The New York Times and Bloomberg reported. Both added that Paramount is still in exclusive talks with another company, Skydance Media, about a potential merger.

Sony joining the process would appear to make Paramount less worried about the cash behind any bid, something it was thought to have worried about with its previous $26 billion bid for Apollo, thanks to the gaming giant’s ” Strong financial resources.”

While the acquisition doesn’t appear to be a done deal, Sony does already have some sway in film and TV, some of which influences its game development – Spider-Man Studios and Columbia Pictures being the obvious example – though It doesn’t have a major streaming service available.

If Sony does a Paramount deal with Apollo, we could be in for some interesting situations, as Paramout+ is the current home of the Halo TV series, which just recently aired its second season. The show received a better response than the first season, which was overall somewhat polarizing.

To be clear, though, Sony won’t be buying the Halo IP itself, which is still very much a matter for Microsoft, with 343 Industries (an Xbox game studio) being its current custodian and actually working with Showtime Networks Made the Halo IP. Paramount+ show.

Sony could also make some money from films like “Star Trek,” “Mission: Impossible,” and, if Nickelodeon gets on board, “SpongeBob SquarePants.” I’m sure there are three series that have a similar audience.

Who knows where all this corporate chess will end up, but hey, it’s a thing.
