Without warning, Sony has just unveiled the official design of its next virtual reality headset: the aptly named PlayStation VR 2. A design to match the first?
After many rumours, it’s time to officially discover the PlayStation VR 2. Simple and with clear lines, it remains true to the first model. There is no revolutionary change. It has a touch much closer to the PlayStation 5.
A very PlayStation 5 design
Weak info on the PlayStation VR 2 (price? release date?)
There are many unanswered questions at the moment. The helmet is scheduled to appear in 2022, but without further details. The first model was 350 dollars when it appeared in 2016. With the various technical changes, such as a 4K HDR OLED screen and a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz, the price can still increase a bit.
Yujin Morisawa, Senior Art Director, says of the helmet:
When I first started working on the design of the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset to let air out, similar to the vents in the PS5 console, which allow air circulation. Our engineers came up with this idea to allow for good ventilation and prevent the lens from fogging up while players are immersed in their VR games.
I worked on many concepts to achieve this and in the final design you can see that there is a small gap between the top surface and the front of the bezel which contains the integrated ventilation. I’m really proud of the result and the positive feedback I’ve received so far. I hope our PlayStation fans will agree too and I can’t wait for them to try it out.
