Sony seems to be making its own statements true, that it is making significant changes to the line-up for PC games. Dataminers have discovered clues pointing to their own launcher.
Sony is currently very lively when it comes to the release of PC games and all the trappings. A separate website for PC titles was recently launched on playstation.com and an entry in the FAQ has already sparked speculation. The entry “No, you need at the moment
Dataminers then perked up and took a closer look at the recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man for PC and found further evidence that a PC launcher and/or linking to a Playstation account is an option, or at least some sort of Playstation Store for the PC, as has basically been the case with Microsoft for a long time.
So far, all PC titles from Sony have appeared on Steam and the Epic Games Store, but a separate launcher like Ubisoft or Activision Blizzard is definitely possible. Among other things, the Dataminer found entries such as “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements”, which indicate possible links to PSN accounts. There is already something similar with Rockstar, which also requires a link to the Rockstar client for Steam or Epic Games games for verification.
It will be interesting to see what follows in the next few weeks. First of all, it is clear that with Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, two more PC ports of Playstation titles are expected to follow later this year. Maybe the PC versions will follow their Playstation counterparts a little closer in the future and not several years later.
The fact that Sony continues to rely on PC versions seems at least sensible in view of the sales. Horizon: Zero Dawn alone sold a whopping 2.4 million copies on the PC by May 2022 and was able to bring in around 60 million US dollars in sales. God of War still managed to sell a million copies by May.
