Game fairs currently have one problem in particular: the publishers are not really up for it. After the E3 was canceled after a number of heavyweights had canceled, gamescom now also has to accept a failure.
Messe Köln will not like that at all. As the colleagues from GamesMarkt report, Sony apparently has very little interest in participating in this year’s gamescom in Cologne. And that despite the fact that Sony has a real heavyweight on board for the Christmas business, at least with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, after its release date was confirmed yesterday at the Summer Games Fest.
As GamesMarkt writes, a company spokesman confirmed that there are currently no plans to exhibit in the business or public area. Sony had already decided not to take part last year and prefers to focus on its own showcases. So for PlayStation fans, the only hope is that Sony will at least release a few new trailers at Opening Night with Geoff Keighley.
So it remains to be seen which publisher greats will be in Cologne. Nintendo has announced participation again after a long break, Microsoft has not yet made any concrete statements. Ubisoft and Bandai Namco have already confirmed their participation.
