Those hoping that Hellraiser 2 would get a dedicated story mode are out of luck, as Arrowhead has no plans for it at all.
Hellraiser 2 is clearly one of the hottest games of 2024, in part because it’s a lot of fun, but also because of its story that has evolved over the past few months. Due to the collaborative nature of the various quests and missions, this story can only be told in the live service game. However, this hasn’t stopped some players from wanting a dedicated story mode, with one player even asking Arrowhead’s new CEO Shams Jorjani if he could create such a thing to play with friends. Jorjani’s response was rather blunt, but understandable: “No way. Sorry bro. That’s like building a whole new game.”

I can’t blame Jorjani for this reaction, as having to create an entire quest with its own unique narrative while also maintaining a live service game is a daunting task for any team, but especially for a studio like Arrowhead, who really didn’t expect the game to take off as it did. Plus, the whole appeal of the game is the stories you can tell your friends when you kill a bug in a cool way.

You also shouldn’t expect too many updates this summer, as Jorjani also responded to another user on Twitter, explaining that Arrowhead “is going to have a summer break, and that’s going to affect it a little bit.”
Earlier this week, Hellraiser 2 received a massive patch that brought a host of adjustments to numerous weapons, so much so that a post in its own right was needed to explain the balance changes. That same update wasn’t all good news, though, as players also felt it brought some difficulty increases, with some players even claiming that all of the planets in the game felt like the infamous Malevelon Creek. As always, though, I imagine Arrowhead is keeping a close eye on developments, so this may not be the case for long.
