Sorry, Hollow Knight fans, but it turns out the Silksong release date cake theory is just a “nothing burger” after all

Hollow Knight: Silk Song fans may have been getting a little ahead of themselves once again, as a theory about an old cake recipe turned out to be false.

It's been roughly six years since Team Cherry announced that Hollow Knight: Silk Song would be a full sequel, rather than a DLC expansion pack originally intended for the first game. Since then, there have been some delays and a few platform confirmations, but not much confirmation of an actual release date. That changed last week when fans noticed that a member of Team Cherry had changed their Discord tag and profile picture to an image of a slice of chocolate cake. Cake relevance? Well, this image is from a recipe posted on April 2, 2024…the same day that the first Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will take place.

You can quickly see how fans took this as a weird little hint that Silksong would finally get a release date in the Direct. But unfortunately, it turns out that's not the case at all, and could just be a weird coincidence (or a bit of mischief on the part of said Cherry team members, but only if they know the April straight-up date ahead of time). Hollow Knight YouTuber fireb0rn recently explained on Twitter that Hollow Knight: Silksong's marketing and publishing manager Matthew “Leth” Griffin contacted them and “confirmed that there is no Silksong ARG and that no changes have been made to William's account and tweets. Meaningless. Sorry for misleading everyone. ”

Later, a fan quoted fireb0rn's tweet and asked Griffin if the game was in progress and if it was real, to which Griffin simply replied: “Yes, the game is real, in progress, and will be released. “This isn't the release date news many were hoping for, but hey, good things come to those who wait.
