Those looking forward to playing Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact will have to wait a little longer, as the game has just experienced a delay.

Earlier this year, fighting game developers Eighting and Bushiroad Games announced that they would be developing a Hunter x Hunter fighting game, much to the delight and concern of fans of the series. It was also supposed to release sometime this year, but unfortunately, earlier today, publisher and Guilty Gear Strive developer Arc System Works said that Nen Impact has been delayed to a very vague 2025 release window. This obviously won’t be welcome news to people looking forward to adding a new fighting game to their ever-growing list of games they swear they’ll get good at one day, but it’s not all bad news.

Arc System Works explained in a statement: “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this delay has caused players who were anticipating the game’s release. This delay is so we can implement rollback netcode at launch… We Given the nature of fighting games and considering that some players may experience online gaming issues, we have made this decision and we will announce it later. Please understand as we will continue to work hard to provide as much information as possible. The best game ever.”

For those of you who don’t know what rollback netcode is, it’s essentially a system that treats all input from you and your opponent as happening immediately to make it as close to a native offline game as possible. Games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have delay-based network code, which means if your connection is bad and you press a specific button, it might not happen immediately in the game. This has been the case for most fighting games in the past, but with the growth of online gaming in recent years, more and more fans have called on fighting game developers to add rollback netcode, even to older games.

Essentially, this is bad news for your immediate happiness, but good news for your delayed happiness. Our own Connor got his hands on the game back in July and thoroughly enjoyed his time playing it, despite his concerns.
