Heck, despite all the hype, Deadpool vs. Wolverine seems to be getting just as bad reviews as DC’s The Flash movie.

Last year, despite all the reasons why they shouldn’t, Warner Bros. decided to release The Flash, and it was an absolutely terrible movie. It was supposed to be a grand multiverse movie that brought Michael Keaton’s Batman back to DC movie history for a cameo, but it was just a disaster, leading to a lot of negative reviews from critics and fans alike. While fans haven’t been able to watch Marvel’s first and only movie of 2024, Deadpool vs. Wolverine, it looks like it’s already doing pretty badly with critics.

At the time of writing, Deadpool vs. Wolverine has a Metacritic score of 55 out of 100 based on 47 reviews, which really doesn’t give a lot of confidence. Most of the reviews are actually positive, but with a lot of mixed reviews, plus a few outright negative reviews, it has the exact same score as The Flash. It’s worth noting that The Flash’s score is based on 55 reviews, so as Deadpool vs. Wolverine’s reviews start to come in, it may start to perform better.

Metacritic's review breakdown for Deadpool vs. Wolverine is 23 favorable reviews, 19 mixed reviews, and 5 unfavorable reviews.

Metacritic's review breakdown for The Flash shows 28 positive reviews, 22 mixed reviews, and 5 negative reviews.

It’s also worth noting that it’s not doing all that badly on Rotten Tomatoes, where it currently has an 81% fresh rating. The difference is that this isn’t based on an average score, but simply on whether the reviews lean toward positive, and if you look only at the top critics on Rotten Tomatoes, that rating drops to 64%. Rotten Tomatoes also allows for more small critics and sites, so it’s probably a better reflection of fan reaction.

We’ll find out what fans think soon enough, as the movie is only a few days away from hitting theaters, this Friday, July 26. One thing we’ll have to wait and see, though, is whether this is Kevin Feige testing the waters to bring back other big-name Marvel characters, including Iron Man.
