Despite what you may have seen, the creators of L.A. Noire are sadly not working on a new game.
If you’ve seen anyone talking about a new upcoming game from the creators of L.A. Noire, I’m sad to say, they’re not going to have a new game. Earlier this week, Australian composer Freyja Garbett posted an Instagram post talking about the new project from the creators of L.A. Noire, and even gave it a name. “From the creators of L.A. Noire comes Sowden House, a psychological thriller also set in 1940s Los Angeles that will make you question your sanity,” Garbett wrote in the now-deleted post (via Eurogamer). “This project is massive and it’s still revealing and unfolding to me. I never thought I’d be working on this project for so long.” [a] But I’m grateful for the opportunity!”

However, Video Games Deluxe (the studio founded by Brendan McNamara, the founder of the now-defunct Team Bondi, the original studio behind L.A. Noire) released a statement explaining that there is no game and clarifying Garbett’s post (via VGC). “We work exclusively on projects for Rockstar,” the statement reads. “We commissioned local composer Freyja Garbett to create some music for a VR project we were working on a few years ago between projects.
“The film is based on a case that didn’t make the cut in L.A. Noire, but it’s more of a technology demo. We don’t know if the film will ever see the light of day, but we decided to complete the score commission to support local composers.”
Essentially, it sounds like a bit of a misnomer, but the bottom line is that you shouldn’t expect a new thriller set in 1940s Los Angeles. Video Games Deluxe previously mentioned that it was working on something for Rockstar, the original publisher of L.A. Noire, with L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, but it’s unclear what exactly the team is working on.
