After a 10-year hiatus, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine returns with a sequel freshly announced for the 2021 Game Awards. Here’s what to remember.
The Game Awards ceremony was the opportunity to unveil many games, including a specific Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. A project between Saber Interactive, to which we owe World War Z and Focus Home Interactive in particular. Back in 2011, Relic Entertainment was responsible for the project.
In the breastplate of a space marine
The game will always be a single player / multiplayer TPS. The solo part will allow us to play as Captain Titus to face infamous hordes of Tyranids. Matthew Karch, President of Saber Interactive said:
Space Marine is one of the most successful TPS of all time. His influence has been felt in almost every shoot over the past ten years. This is an incredible opportunity for the Saber teams to create a true AAA game drawing on more than two decades of experience with prestigious licenses such as Halo, Quake and World War Z. Space Marine 2 is the most ambitious project in our history. and we have no doubt that once it is released it will become a video game classic.
Jon Gillard, Games Workshop International Licensing Manager added:
This is the most requested Warhammer sequel! So we’re excited to finally be able to meet player demand by giving them a taste of the project that talented teams have been secretly working on for several years. Once again, players can take on the role of an almighty Space Marine and we believe they will love it!
A good aura for the first Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
The least we can say is that the Saber studio is showing some confidence and we hope for them that everything goes as planned. It’s true that the game benefited from a certain aura, especially in retrospect. On Steam, the title also has a lot of praise in the comments with very positive opinions.
There is currently no release date, but the game is planned for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
