A curious player dug into the PC files for Spider-Man Remake, and sure enough, they found something interesting.
Interestingly, Spider-Man is likely to have co-op and PvP elements in another universe. twitter user, DniweTampshared screenshots they found in the game files, where they revealed that co-op and PvP were once in development for the superhero title.
Screenshots have since been checked and verified by VGC as well. This information comes directly from the game executable and shows that the multiplayer mode will include a callout to “Super Spider-Man” along with the winner. It looks like these two characters will step into the shoes of Miles Morales or Peter Parker because of Rumble.
The files also mention “Character 1” and “Character 2”, and their respective co-op experiences: “Character 2 will see this text if set up and in co-op (debug only)” is an example of this.
In an in-depth study of the documents, VGC also discovered that the multiplayer mode appears to be separate from Spider-Man’s campaign mode and is not easily accessible from the very beginning of the game.
As some have misunderstood, that doesn’t mean multiplayer is coming to Spider-Man Remake anytime soon. It just means that there was a time when Insomniac Games was working on a mode for the game before it was possible to scrap it.
That being said, a sequel to Spider-Man has been announced for a 2023 release. If Insomniac messed up co-op and PvP in the original game, there’s certainly an opportunity to build a legitimate multiplayer mode into the game. sequel.
