mrs webbThe upcoming “Spider-Man” spin-off finally gives us a sneak peek at the eponymous character’s heroic suit. Where? Oh, and of course the cranberry juice bottle.
Oh, Sony. You really, really want to make a Spider-Man cinematic universe without any idea of how to make it happen, especially when that universe doesn’t actually have Spider-Man in it. The upcoming Spider-Man movie Mrs. Spider-Man once again doesn’t feature Spider-Man as the main character, focusing instead on the lesser-known character of the same name, as well as a handful of other Spider-Men. While we saw most of Spider-Man’s suit in the first (very ugly) trailer, Mrs. Weber’s suit was missing.

Well, the item has already started selling out in bulk ahead of its release, so there must be some kind of leak showing off the set via toys? Or maybe it’s just a poster that was put up too early? Of course, it couldn’t be that mundane, no, it had to be on a bottle of Ocean Spray, a brand of cranberry juice you probably only drink when you have a urinary tract infection. There’s just a picture of Cassandra Webb, the comic book character’s civilian name, on the bottle, in her red suit, looking… good? There’s nothing terribly wrong with it, but like the first trailer, there’s nothing particularly right about it either.

In recent years, there hasn’t been any room for him to appear in any of the wider Sony Spider-Man movies, thanks to Sony’s deal with Disney that meant Spider-Man could appear in the Marvel Universe. This leaves an awkward situation where Venom looks like Spider-Man despite never being connected to Peter, while Morbius appears as a Marvel Cinematic Universe villain because… they need a post-credits scene ?
While I enjoyed Venom, Morbius was a mess, so I don’t think Mrs. Webb will be any different. Maybe the upcoming Kraven the Hunter movie will be good? No, you’re right, it won’t.
