A first leak for the spin-off series Stranger Things? The rumor conjures up a project that would clearly come as a surprise compared to the original Netflix show.
Writing for the final fifth season of Stranger Things began this summer, but the Duffer brothers are looking to take their MCU one step further. The spin-off series would be one of the cornerstones of this project and it would be radically different.
Details on the Stranger Things Tokyo spin-off series
Before we get to the heart of the matter, let’s pull out the big tweezers of severity, because this rumor didn’t come from such eminent sources as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, or Deadline. According to What’s on Netflix, the first “Stranger Things” spin-off will be a cartoon Subtitle “Tokyo”. We would follow the adventures of two twin brothers – like Matt and Ross Duffer – video game enthusiasts who lived in the Tokyo suburbs in the 80s.

On paper it would be believable. Stranger Things: Tokyo has reportedly been in development for quite some time and total episodes would be around 6 hours long. Previously, the two showrunners warned that the Netflix spin-off will be surprising and different from the original series, which could fit perfectly with those details.
Other ongoing projects
The Duffer Brothers think big for their Stranger Things universe. A play is in development, as is a crossover involving Deadpool and this animated series (if confirmed).
