Splitgate 2: Shooter sequel announced in free-to-play format

announced, format, freetoplay, sequel, Shooter, Splitgate

Splitgate, once described as a mix of Halo and Portal, will be continued; the new free-to-play shooter Splitgate 2 will be released next year.

Does Splitgate still ring a bell? The shooter was often described as a mix of Halo and Portal and had between 30,000 and 70,000 players at its peak. However, problems with the game engine have caused the number of daily players to drop to around 300. Nevertheless, a successor is coming soon.

Developer 1047 Games officially announced Splitgate 2 today. The first-person shooter is scheduled to be released in 2025 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) platforms and will then focus on 4v4 gameplay; the makers are foregoing a single-player campaign.

The game is free-to-play, but it can be assumed that there will be all sorts of (cosmetic) content for monetization. The first trailer attached below doesn’t show any gameplay, but it does provide a first glimpse into potential mechanics, weapons and levels.

You will be able to choose from various characters, the so-called Aces. These include the agile Aeroa or Meridian, who can manipulate time. Sabrask, on the other hand, functions as a tank. Further details are expected to be announced in the course of the coming month of August – perhaps at gamescom?
