Sports stories make headlines in Nintendo’s indie gaming world

gaming, headlines, Indie, Nintendos, Sports, Stories, World

Nintendo shared it recently Indie World Showcase Just yesterday (November 9) came an incredible series of games that are both fun and cute. All of these will be coming to the Nintendo Switch console during 2022 and 2023.

Frankly, we have too many options when it comes to upcoming indie games. There are roguelikes, adventures, puzzles, narrative games, and many unique artworks. So, without further ado, here are every game Nintendo’s Indie World showcased.

See for yourself the Nintendo Indie Game World showcase here.

Sports Events – Coming in December

The show’s star is arguably Sports Story, the sports role-playing game that follows 2017’s champion Golf Story. Now you can continue and focus on being a golfer as before, or you can try football, tennis, cricket, BMX and more. Plus, Sports Story isn’t just about your motor skills, it’s also about your motor skills. You’ll also explore ruins and dungeons, go to shopping malls, play mini-games, and meet a variety of characters.

A little to the left – arrives today

A Little to Left seems like another game for cat owners, or someone like me who yearns for a cat but can’t take real responsibility for the creatures. In the game, you’ll solve short, satisfying puzzles around your home, keeping things in order when life (and your mischievous cat) gets in the way.

Here’s the trailer for A Little to Left.

Blanc – coming in February

A cooperative adventure that tells the emotional story of unlikely friendships. In this black-and-white game, Blank sees a wolf pup and a fawn come together to help each other find their way home, and each adorable character has their own unique powers to help them.

Blanc is also completely text-free and co-playable online and locally, making it even easier to pick up.

Rogue Legacy 2 – Arriving Today

Rogue Legacy 2 is the sequel to 2013’s Rogue Legacy, coming to PC in 2020. Now, the roguelite platformer is coming to Nintendo Switch with the Fabled Heroes update. With this, you can try out more than a dozen classes in the dynamic 2D platformer as you try to maximize your runs, collect your fortunes, and repeat.

Botany Estate – Arrival 2023

Botany Manor sees you play the role of retired Arabella Green as she takes care of the 19th century estate. Throughout the process, players will solve plant puzzles around the estate and form their own collection of forgotten flora. Perfect for anyone who likes solving puzzles and trimming plants.

goodbye world – arriving this month

GOODBYE WORLD follows two friends and game developers as they try to come up with their next idea. As you explore the retro-inspired platformer and solve puzzles, you’ll learn about the daily struggles of these two characters as they try not only to create their own game, but also to make ends meet. Will their friendship survive?

Learn all about GOODBYE WORLD here.

Aka – Coming in December

While I’m obviously very excited about Sports Story, Akka may have to be the next game on Nintendo’s list of Indie World games. Play as a retired soldier and red panda Akka, this little game is all about finding inner peace. Cruising the island paradise, Akka’s world of joy is at your fingertips; he can nurture flora, build shelter, explore mountains, feed baby dragons, and more.

What’s more, along their journey, you’ll also encounter ghosts from Aka’s past.

Check out the trailer for Aka.

Dordogne – arrivals in 2023

Dordogne focuses on Mimi, a girl who spent most of her childhood in Dordogne, France. In the game, Mimi returns to her late grandmother’s house, and through a series of letters, secrets, and more, Mimi discovers there’s a lot to uncover.

Players can travel between past and present, exploring Mimi’s memories and current experiences, ultimately uncovering more about her relationship with her grandmother.

ONI: The Road to Becoming the Most Powerful Oni – Reaching March

ONI: The Road to be the Mightiest Oni is heavily inspired by Japanese folklore, and it shows. Throughout the 3D action game, you play as Kuuta, a very cute demon warrior who wants to defeat more ancient demons.

Kuuta has also teamed up with Kazemaru, which allows you to control Kazemaru simultaneously on a single Joy-Con controller. ONI doesn’t necessarily seem to be my cup of tea, but its colorful nature and the fact that Kuuta looks like an angry, horned Wooper betrays me.

Venba – Arrival in 2023

Venba is set in the 1980s and you will help an Indian mother who recently immigrated to Canada. Throughout this wholesome narrative journey, you’ll help this mother reconnect with her heritage by helping her cook some delightful-sounding South Indian dishes.

This looks like a touching story of love, loss, and memories as you help this person reconnect with their past and help bring back old family recipes.

Check out Venba’s trailer here.

Unfettered Space – January Comes

A Space for the Unbound is a slice-of-life adventure game with a gorgeous pixel art style, so I’m addicted to it.

Set in the Indonesian countryside of the 90s, this game lets you unravel the story of a boy and a girl and their relationship. The girl also happens to have supernatural powers, which ends up causing trouble for the production and forcing the two characters to uncover secrets and take on the apocalypse.

Happy Die – March Comes

Embark on the road to death in this fully hand-drawn 2D roguelike game. In Have A Nice Death, you’ll explore Death Incorporated’s procedurally generated division while using weapons, spells, and curses to try to round up rogue employees who stole souls from Earth.

Check out the “Happy Die” trailer here!

You might think that’s a lot of games. Well, there are more. Pepper Grinder is an action-adventure game where you take on the role of a spicy treasure hunter with Grinder. Then, there’s Once Upon a Jester, which looks like a rather wacky fantasy adventure following two ill-intentioned friends.

We’ll also see Inscryption, its perfect blend of roguelikes, deck building, and psychological horror, coming to Nintendo Switch in December. Joining it is November’s Wobbledogs Console Edition, a strange-looking but satisfying pet sim. On top of that, Desta: The Memories Between makes its console debut, a character-driven roguelike that involves… a metaphorical ball game. interesting.

In May, WrestleQuest will also land on the handheld, allowing players to realize their professional wrestling dreams. For those who want to relive a story that doesn’t involve professional wrestling, Storytellers is coming in March. This puzzle game lets players tell their own stories, from Shakespeare’s tragedies to supernatural fantasy.

Now entering the summer of 2023, World of Horrors is coming to Switch. This is a 1-bit roguelite RPG that, as the name suggests, is full of horror elements inspired by Japanese folklore. Now, perhaps one of Nintendo’s more epic games to come is Curse of the Sea Rat. This hand-drawn adventure follows a group of bluffing mice you might call “ratoidvania.”

This is the (final) Nintendo Indie World. Which games caught your attention and which excited you the most? For me, Sports Story, Aka, GOODBYE WORLD and Blanc are great buys.
