Fans also have great expectations of the single-player offshoot Squadron 42 of the space epic Star Citizen, but apparently the waiting time for this is still long.
On the one hand, Star Citizen is an immensely large crowdfunding success, after all, the game has collected countless millions of dollars from fans to become an extremely ambitious project. On the other hand, the space epic in the finished version 1.0 is still a long time coming, even many years after the announcement – and a similar fate now seems to overtake the single-player offshoot Squadron 42.
The now independent campaign should score with an immersive story and let you escape into the vastness of space – garnished with all kinds of well-known actors, including Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill. However, this game will also be a long time coming, as Director Chris Roberts now admits in a new blog entry at the end of the year.
“I have decided that it is best not to show Squadron 42 gameplay publicly or discuss a release date until we are closer to the final development stage and have a high level of confidence in what the remaining amount of time it will take in order to be able to finish the game in the quality that we want, “said Roberts.
In short: Squadron 42 is currently not nearly on the home straight, even though an earlier roadmap was initially shown in July 2020, which originally also referred to a beta test phase in the second quarter of 2020. In October 2020, the date for Squadron 42 was then quickly changed to TBA; but there is currently no official date.
