With the launch week of Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker, Square Enix apologies for long queues by giving free game time.
Square Enix Issues Free Game Time for Final Fantasy XIV Players Due to Long Server Queues
The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV launched its latest expansion Endwalker, with those who pre-ordered gaining Early Access since December 3rd. This has undoubtedly caused an influx of players all trying to log in during peak times, causing not only long queues but also disconnects and errors. In order to compensate players, Square Enix and the Final Fantasy XIV developers have announced they will be giving players seven free days of game time to make up for it.
Producer and director of FFXIV Naoki Yoshida apologised in a blog post for the “congestion” players were experiencing over the weekend. The developer had already put in place some measures to counter the expected high numbers of players during the weekend including prioritising paid subscriber log ins and increasing the log in cap. However, of course any launch can cause unexpected numbers and Yoshida shares those who are full version owners of the game and have an active sub will be able to gain 7 days of free game time:
Considering that we are asking players to wait in queues for extremely long periods of time and the ongoing situation making it difficult to play normally. We have decided that during the official release of Endwalker on December 7, we will be granting 7 days of free game time to all players who own the full version of the game and have an active subscription.
Queues are quite lengthy at the moment during peak times, at times reaching 5000 or more depending on the time you log in. According to SteamDB the title has now reached over 95k active players breaking its previous 67k record. This is just the Steam player base as FFXIV is also on consoles as well Windows via Square Enix. According to Kotaku this is more than doubled its player base since June. Have you been waiting out the queues? Let us know the comments below.
FFXIV kicked off their pre-order launch with style with the release of a music video featuring Sia singing “Fly Me to the Moon” inspired by the game. In case you missed it Endwalker features two new jobs Reaper who specialises in scythe-swinging melee DPS for close-quarter combat, and can call on an avatar from the Void. There is also the new Sage job, a healer who wields a barrier heal, the fourth healer to be added to the game.
