Originally it seemed that the content of Final Fantasy XVI was not going to be expanded in any way and that everything we saw from day one was going to be the only thing we were going to be able to play, especially since initially the team at Square Enix did not demonstrate any intention to publish any downloadable content. However, it ended up being retracted until a few months later when the announcement of a couple of expansions came.
As of today, the first of them, Echoes of the Fallen, is available, while the next one, The Rising Tide, dedicated entirely to Eikon Leviathan, is scheduled to be released throughout the spring, on a date yet to be determined. However, this second DLC may not be the last that this latest installment of the saga ends up receiving.
The portal Game Informer has been able to speak with its producer, Naoki Yoshida, and with the director of these new adventures, Takeo Kujiraoka, to to know if they had any interest in developing any more DLC. Although the first of them did not want to get too wet, he has indicated something that may be good news for fans, although it is better not to get too excited.
It is a difficult question. My honest answer is “I don’t know at this point”, but at the same time, the possibility is not an absolute zero. I don’t want to rule out any real possibilities at this point. The reason is that we put a lot of effort and time into creating this game and put a lot of cutting-edge technology into it.
And because of this, we were able to gain a lot of experience, a lot of learning, that we can possibly apply to our next project or video game. So my honest feeling is that the team wants to take on a new challenge and move on to a different project. Maybe it’s a whole new game, maybe a new form of entertainment. I feel like ultimately that might be the best route not only for the players, but for us as well. But again, I reiterate, the possibility of more Final Fantasy XVI downloadable content is not zero.
Therefore, from their statements it can be concluded that it is best that we do not count on it in the short term. Of course, after what happened last year, nothing can be ruled out. It is best that we wait patiently until the expansion is released The Rising Tide and from there we will see what happens with Final Fantasy XVI or the future Final Fantasy XVII.
